A quick nip into the Palm House

These are just a few more photos I took on Saturday that highlight the wonder that is the Botanic Gardens; really it isn't hard to tell how I love this place! Of course going to see the renovated Tropical Ravine meant we passed by the gorgeous Palm House and, naturally, one can not in fact by pass it as it's so beautiful and the glimpses of colour through the windows draw one in like a moth to a flame.

The Palm House - Carrie Gault 2018

The Palm House was opened in 1840 (with the central dome added 15 years later) and was one of the first to ever use curved glass. It remains a rare and beautiful survival.  There are so many details that one could spend forever in there seeing every last bit.

Succulents in the Palm House - Carrie Gault 2018

Of course there were palms, alongside my other lovely plants in the central atrium but these are my personal favourites, the succulents. I have no idea what their true names are and even if I tried to learn these days, well, my brain is like a sieve. Instead I simply marvel at them and that is quite enough. I think the first one is an Aloe Vera - like the one I lovingly tended to in the dining room yesterday.

Wall of joy in the Palm House - Carrie Gault 2018

Here is a section of the right wing of the house - just suck in all those shades of green and red, so much texture - a wall of joy. It was hot in here alright but worth the dehydration, haha.

The left wing was being used as the backdrop for Wedding photography and it was a riot of colour. I'm not sure what flowers they had in there but I'm thinking maybe loads of begonias or other bedding plants as the flower beds outside were empty and they are usually stunning. What an amazing Wedding album that couple will have - oh I'm a little jealous 😉

Hugs galore

  2. So much wonderful color and textures. Like you, I just can't get the names of succulents to stick either.
